The archeological excavations carried out in Monte Molião revealed the existence of a late Roman Republican occupation that overlapped the pre-roman settlement. In this phase it was possible to identify a space dedicated to metallurgical operations, which produced artifacts in bronze and iron. This function was established by the presence, in a compartment of 18 m2, of remains of baked clay, concentrations of ashes, dripping remains and slags of the metal work and even artifacts, some intact, others fractured. The ceramic vessels associated, particularly the campanien ware, the Kuass ware and the thin walled vases, allowed us to assign a precise chronology for this activity, which is confirmed by the stratigraphic sequence. The evidence gathered indicates that the metallurgical production of Monte Molião is basically of a domestic kind, and is mainly for local consumption. The raw material required are probably also recovered from nearby areas.
In 2005 and 2006, preventive archaeological works that took place in the surrounding area of the settlement of Monte Molião, in the Lagos bay, lead to the identification of negative structures with considerable size. Although its significance is still difficult to interpreted, its filling allowed to recover a significant association of archaeological artifacts dated between the late 2nd / early 1st c. BC. In this paper we will focus specifically on the set of metallic objects retrieved in the abovementioned contexts.

The site of Monte Novo dos Albardeiros is located near the village of Campinho (Reguengos de Monsaraz, Évora). A small tell situated next to the magazine of a farmstead was partially excavated, revealing several phases of occupation. The know phases of occupation are: a third millennium fortified farmstead; a funerary structure of tholos type, datable to the second half of the third millennium; and above the collapsed structure of the latter, two funerary deposits of the Early Bronze Age. Metal arrefacts were recovered from all of these phases, including traces of local copper metallurgy from the two earliest phases of occupation of the site. Through the EDXRF method, the composition of two awls, an axe and an alène, all manufactured from copper, was analysed. A brief technico-cultural study is also presented, stressing the «arehaeometallurgic continuity» of the site and the question of arsenical copper.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

This paper covers the archaeological research carried out in the settlement of Gasteiz (Vitoria-Gasteiz) and the abandoned Alavese village of Bagoeta (Arrazua-Ubarrundia), since these two places are essential in understanding the significance of early medieval ironworking in inhabited areas on the Plains of Álava. Both these archaeological sites have a long history that can be divided into two extensive periods reflecting the development of metallurgical activity and habitat in this area of Álava. The first period, between 600 and 950 A.D., is notable for two rural settlements in which the same iron industry developed that was able to cover the entire chain of work; i.e. from ore reduction to the final forging of the ferramenta (iron tools and artefacts). The second, from 950 to 1100 A.D., reveals significant differences between the two sites. Whereas Bagoeta basically maintained its organisational arrangement in terms of its production and use of space seen in the first phase, Gasteiz rapidly evolved towards a fully urban model, firstly by introducing an urban layout organized around real streets and later by building walls to surround the city. These changes brought about a significant shift in the strategy of iron production by abandoning the reduction activities and retaining only those related to the forge.
